Jenny Mach
also known as waeyungart
Visdev / Concept artist and Illustrator
Hi there!
I'm Jenny, was born as a Chinese-Vietnamese and moved to Canada when I was a teenager. With my uncommon but not unique experiences, I go with many names growing up. A few others know me as Jenny or Quế Dung [pronounced as WaeYung], a couple knows me as 桂蓉. In June 2024, I graduated from Dawson Illustration Program in Montreal as a concept and visdev artist and an illustrator. I love making atmospheric paintings, detail oriented and design concept work. Currently I'm looking for opportunities to grow as an artist .
Thank you for visiting!

MUSUBI ( 結び)
Musubi, a Japanese profound word that holds a generous amount of definition. It means 'a flow of time', means 'a tying of thread' and also 'the connection between people'.
This philosophy concept inspires me so much to creating the story for this world building project. It is something I still think about and developing everyday. With the credit where I get to know and understand this concept. I should mention "Kimi no nawa" aka. "Your Name" anime movie from Makoto Shinkai. This quote has caught my attention, that is also so fascinating to know about,
"Tying threads is Musubi,
Connecting people is Musubi,
The flow of time is Musubi,
They converge and take shape..
They twist, tangle..
Sometimes unravel, break
Then connect again..
Musubi - knotting. That's time.. "
SHORT
- Musubi project is an alternative world that I imagine of. It is a fictional story I'm taking inspiration from many real life things such as cultural, time period, etc. that I'm interested in. Therefore, there are fantasy elements, unrealistic in the designs as well as the storyline.
- MUSUBI is taking inspiration from Japanese Meiji and Taisho period, where Japanese culture and architecture influenced by Westerns. Its technology is referencing from fantasy steampunk (victorian) classical tech from 2010 to earlier.
- Location's inspo: Ha Long bay, Vietnam. Saikazaki, Wakayama, Japan.
I will update my story brief here soon.
Here are a few exploration sketches that I still need to refine and develop.
An overall view of the bay (I temporary call this bay "Union Centre")This area is located separately from the common land. Union centre is place where importances buildings located such as the headquarter of this world is, it is also where Museum of the 's... history, LIbrary and tech research & development centre.
The bay's main entrance composition sketch.
aka 'The Glassdome area' temporary name.
Some rough sketches showcasing Glassdome's Port area located at a side of Glassdome (the bay's entrance)
This area is where all the store fronts located and where the cargo boats import essential goods from the common land to the bay.
Here are some brainstorm transportation, architectures sketches in my sketchbook. I'm trying to figure things out as well as having better visual library for future designs.
